Month in Review

A Month in Review: April

I started off April with a bang, hoping to do the Ultimate Blog Challenge here on Caitlyn McConnell. Well, you know what they say… All roads are paved with good intentions.

But really, I did good for the first half of the month, and then… well… the weather got nice. At least nicer. And there was so much work to be done; chicken coops to be cleaned, drywall to be hung, etc, etc. And then we had family obligations out the ass after my 90-year-old Aunt went to a nursing home and had to turn her house over to the reverse mortgage company in only 30 days. After living there for 50 damn years.

And let me tell you, one person can gather up a whole lot of crap in 50 years.

Anyway. Back to the task at hand.

I didn’t read shit in April. I tried. I did. Sort of.

One of my goals for the year, besides this list, is to read a book on writing every month. This month I chose a book by a writer I met once at my local library. My copy of the book is even signed.

Really, it’s not that exciting.

Writing Secrets: Essential steps to discover how to start by Tim Morrison was a complete disappointment. I couldn’t finish it. I tried. Really hard. I just couldn’t get through it. And really, to give Morrison a little bit of credit, he’s talking more about, well, I’m not exactly sure what he’s taking about. Maybe about technical writing, become an “authority in your field.” Yeah, well, I hate my field. Anyway, I read well over 3/4 of the damn thing, and STILL couldn’t get it finished.

And as far as other reading went… Well, I started a memoir, but I only got about 50% of it done, so I’ll discuss it in May’s review. Hopefully.

And that’s about it. *shrugs*

Writing was a little better. 14 posts here, but only 3 over at Love Sex and Marriage. But 3 is better than none, right?

Well, it is what it is.

On a brighter note… The weather’s better. Beautiful really. My arms are tan and my flower gardens are in. As is the strawberry patch.

Oh, and I’ve decided to go back to school. And quit my job.

But not for a few months. I’ve got things I need to prepare.

Peace out y’all. I’ve got Weeds playing on Netflix.

xoxo

  1. Dear Caitlyn,
Don’t be so hard on yourself! I too have been freaking out because I haven’t posted anything in a awhile. Aahhh Yes that has been Me, lots of intentions that have not come to pass. I don’t consider myself a “writer”, and wanted this blog for Me to be fun and playful.
I have come to the acceptance that Life goes on, and our undivided attention to taking care of “business” can detract from being here on W.P. Congratulations on going back to school! I think that’s Awesome! You started a memoir have your garden set, and are tan.
    IT’S ALL GOOD MY FRIEND!😊
    Your Friend,
    Anastasia

    • Thanks Anastasia, for taking it easy on me! haha
My thing is if I really want to pursue being a professional writer, I’ve got to buckle down and do what needs to be done. *shrugs* We’ll see.

      And again, thank you! xoxo

      • Dear Caitlyn,
Sorry for the delayed reply… Without sounding repetitive…Living the demands of everyday life and caring for our kids can just Suck every bit of Energy and Enthusiasm out of us not to mention the unnecessary pressures that we place on ourselves. I Feel your Frustrations. I just wanted for You to know that You are not alone My Friend.
        Hugs,
        Anastasia 😊
